Treely.co‘s recent survey of small landowners offered some interesting insight into ownership and the insatiable desire for more, more, and even more information by owners. Below are a few of the survey questions and results:
“What are some of the reasons you own land?“, the top three answers in order of popularity:
1] investment
2] recreation
3] inherited
On the question of “Is your land producing any income? If so, how?”90% of respondents answered no, of the 10% who answered yes, the most popular method was timber harvesting and pine needle harvesting.
We also asked respondents what measures they’ve taken to increase their’s land value.. top three answers in order of popularity:
1] added cabin
2] added pond
3] planted trees
Another question, “would you consider selling trees from your acreage for income?”
80% – yes
15% – maybe
5% – no
We followed that question with “Do you have any interest in learning ways to make money from your land?”
99% – yes
And lastly, we asked “What is your preferred way to communicate?”with a 100% of respondents indicating email.
We were happy to see that a large percentage of respondents ownership was a result of inheritance. We support the practice of handing down land from generation to generation and like the legacy it builds.
Additionally, we liked the addition of cabins and ponds to add value, it also indicates that the land is likely being used for recreation and enjoyment. What we learned from the question of “… learning ways to make money from your land?” is that, even though a wealth of information exists, landowners are thirsty for it and more.
