NORTH CAROLINA AIR NATIONAL GUARD

TSGT Richard L. Yow, Sr.

 

TSGT Richard L. Yow, Sr. Power Production, 145th CivilEngineer Squadron, North Carolina Air National Guard.Responsibilities include direct instruction by providing training opportunities to improve airmen’s proficiency levels on contingency wartime mission essential equipment which cannot otherwise be obtained at home station resulting in certification recommendation, and enhancing wartime skills in the Power Production career field.

 

TSGT Yow has been with the North Carolina Air National Guard and the Regional Training Site since May of 2004. He is a Desert Shield, Desert Storm Veteran serving in the United States Air Force from 1992-1995.

 

He has served at Mcentire ANG Station from 1995-2004, has been deployed for Operation Southern Watch and Operation Enduring Freedom, and he has been working on the Congaree National Park Project for over a year. This Project is an historical event between the National Park Service and the Air National Guard providing a new welcome center, a paved road, and a boardwalk, built by guard members, for the park. TSGT Yow has instructed over 200 classes for the Bak-12 AAS and over 200 classes for generators and transfer panels. TSGT Yow has provided Aircraft Arresting Systems (AAS) for Air Shows such as Thunder over Louisville, Great State of Main an 100th Navy Anniversary and Victory Dayton Air Show, with aircraft such as the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, Snowbird (from Canada) and many other military special Demo teams. TSGT Yow was one of the first Air Force members to install and catch an aircraft with the new Mobile Runway Edge Sheave.

 

TSGT Yow has been involved with several evaluations for the Aircraft Arresting System, new load banks, working close with Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency, Silver Flag and contracting offices saving the Air Force money and time. TSGT Yow has proven himself during both ACC and AMC inspections by being singled out during ORI’s and UCI’s as a “superior performing engineer”, and has insured his units receive outstanding and excellent grades. TSGT Yow led the Base Expeditionary Airfield Resources (BEAR) Base bed down for the very first cold weather set up of the Disaster Relief Bed-down System double package, working closely with over 9 states, Active duty Army, Air, Army National Guard, Air National Guard for a successful Operation Vigilant Guard.

 

TSGT Yow was involved with the first lesson plan development for the Air National Guard, and has assisted on numerous curriculum reviews along with several deployments to assist other units during ORI and UCI set ups.

 

TSGT Yow has been able to work with CE, Air Traffic Control, and Combat Comm Squadrons assisting them in training and preparation for upcoming inspections. TSGT Yow has set up anddeveloped the first exclusive international AAS course for Canadian Power Production and HVAC troops and has also served as a lead instructor in the first ever Air National Guard AAS course. TSGT Yow was the CE Supervisor for setting up the first BEAR base in Antique for a Joint Operations.

 

TSGT Yow has served as the 285 Facility Manager for two years and has been the transition leader from 285 Combat Com to 285 CE. TSGT Yow bestows credit upon himself and his unit as a Civil Engineer specializing in the Power Production 3E0X2 Career Field as a certified Instructor.
